None. WhatPlant is designed from the ground up to work without collecting any user data. There are no servers, no databases, no user accounts, and no analytics. Everything happens on your device.
When you use the camera to identify a plant, the photo is processed entirely on your iPhone using an on-device AI model. The photo is never uploaded to any server. It is stored locally in your app's journal and is not accessible to us or any third party.
WhatPlant may request access to your location to tag where you found a plant. This data is stored locally on your device as part of your journal entries. Location data is never transmitted anywhere. You can deny location access and the app works perfectly without it.
Plant identification is performed by an AI model running locally on your device. No images, queries, or results are sent to external servers. The model files are bundled with the app or downloaded to your device for local use only.
WhatPlant may offer an optional cloud verification feature for cases where the on-device model is uncertain. If you enable this feature, a compressed version of your photo is sent to a cloud AI service for a second opinion. This is opt-in, clearly indicated in the app, and can be disabled at any time. When disabled, no data ever leaves your device.
WhatPlant does not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services. There are no SDKs collecting data in the background. No ads. No pixels. No fingerprinting.
WhatPlant does not collect any data from anyone, including children. The app is safe for all ages.
We do not share any data with third parties because we do not have any data to share. Your photos, journal entries, nature walks, and quiz progress exist only on your device.
All data is stored locally on your iPhone. If you delete the app, all data is deleted with it. We retain nothing because we receive nothing.
If we ever change how data is handled, we will update this page with a new date. Given our commitment to on-device processing, we don't anticipate significant changes.
